The Ludlow Settlement section of the river supports the only breeding rookery used every year by Night Herons, a rare bird struggling for habitat in the present environmental drought circumstances. The river itself is host to many crustaceans and small fish that support the fledgling Heron's and many other dependent water birds, frogs, reptiles, 'long neck turtles and small marsupials struggling for survival.
